Baltimore remembers the Civil War

Baltimore will remember veterans of the civil war. In the 150 anniversary celebrations to be held here, Baltimore remembers how it all started from here. Baltimore’s history is dotted with lots of civil war events. At the launch of this celebration, exhibitions will be made. Such exhibitions will give a chance for people to see what happened in Baltimore during the civil war.

During the civil war, this city was run by the army. Such scenes are displayed at exhibition sites as part of this celebration. Those were the times when the people of this city had to contend with living under the surveillance of the military. Such were the times, when people longed for democracy and the freedom to exercise fundamental rights.

The Pratt Street Riot happened during this time. Civil War’s notable violent event, this riot took place in Baltimore. The bloody event is recorded as a violent struggle in the lives of the people of Baltimore during that time. On the Pratt Street, hundreds of people will walk in remembrance of the people who lost their lives in the Pratt Street riot.

They will teach your family how to talk, walk and play games like a swashbuckling pirate. Its a great fun filled day for the family at a fairly moderate price. After dark they also cater for the more boisterous pirates and wenches with the B.Y.O.G cruises.

National Aquarium

Baltimore is host to one of the largest aquariums on the planet. The staff are incredibly friendly and always willing to answer your questions. There are often many daily event to keep the little one’s entertained, although watching the many colorful fish might just be enough.

St. Mary’s City

A restored village from the 17th Century which is more than meets the eye. The family will simply love this village. The staff and historical actors are helpful and entertaining, and the historical games are fantastic. This is an incredibly moderately priced attraction, and many visitors return several times.

Evergreen Museum and Library

Probably not a place to take young children, but for someone interested in history and museums it is a must see attraction. You can’t wander around the grounds on your own but the guided tour lasts little over an hour and the tour guides are always very informative and eager to answer all your questions.

The Walters Art Museum

This is a great free attraction and hosts a large collection of everything from Asian, Greek and even pieces from the middle ages. However, the museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Most everyone loves to go out and catch a film on occasion. Baltimore is not at a loss for providing movies for the entertainment of its citizens. From International Film Festivals to your typical blockbuster multiplex you can find a multitude of film in Baltimore.

Keep an eye on the local universities as they will often have film series and festivals that are too good to miss out on. Just in February alone Towson University brought Baltimore Bridges to the World International Film Festival while Goucher College brought Herskovits at the Heart of Blackness: Film Screening and Panel Discussion. So do not forget about the schools of higher education as they can provide higher entertainment as well.

If you just want to head out and catch the local new release there are several places to visit. But if you want something a little different try a drive-in theater. Drive-in theaters are very hard to find in today’s world buy many cities still have one if you look hard enough. Baltimore is no exception. Baltimore has Bengies Drive In Theater on Eastern Boulevard. Experience the movies as they did years ago. Bengies has triple features on Fridays and Saturday nights to entertain the citizens. Baltimore has a great deal of activity for everyone. Even if you are looking for outdoor activities you can find something to do in Baltimore. Baltimore Fun Guide is a great resource if you are trying to find something to do either outdoors or indoors.

History of the Baltimore Orioles

Baseball fans in Baltimore love their Birds or sometimes referred to as the O’s. The Baltimore Orioles official website has all of the scoop on the beloved team. According to the Orioles site the team began when the St. Louis Browns moved to Baltimore in 1953 and in 1954 the first year of the Baltimore Orioles that love affair with baseball in Baltimore was born. The sixties brought progress to the Birds with players like Jim Gentile, Ron Hansen, Steve Barber and Frank Robinson. By the end of the 1970′s the Orioles had made their way to the World Series. During the 1980′s the team tried out a new look by changing uniforms and the 1990′s brought the change of a new playing field. In 1992 the team moved to the Camden Yards. It is considered that their best successes were in the period between 1964 and 1983. Yet, the years after did provide some interesting times.

The 1990′s and 2000′s have not been the most glorious for the team, but changes have been made and the team still fights on to be the best. During the period after moving to Camden Yards the team has gone through its fair share of ups and down. The loyalists will always be rooting for their team to take home a win, and others may seek the glory days of before. With any athletic team there will be good times and bad, but the fans loyal to the team will always be there to back up their Birds.
