Baltimore, Maryland offers a variety of entertainment options for both visitors and residents. History of the Baltimore Orioles

Baseball fans in Baltimore love their Birds or sometimes referred to as the O’s.  The Baltimore Orioles official website has all of the scoop on the beloved team. On the site you can find out news about the team, check out their stats, and even buy tickets to the game. So what is an overview of the history of the Birds and the city of Baltimore?

According to the Orioles site the team began when the St. Louis Browns moved to Baltimore in 1953 and in 1954 the first year of the Baltimore Orioles that love affair with baseball in Baltimore was born. The sixties brought progress to the Birds with players like Jim Gentile, Ron Hansen, Steve Barber and Frank Robinson. By the end of the 1970′s the Orioles had made their way to the World Series. During the 1980′s the team tried out a new look by changing uniforms and the 1990′s brought the change of a new playing field. In 1992 the team moved to the Camden Yards. It is considered that their best successes were in the period between 1964 and 1983. Yet, the years after did provide some interesting times.

The 1990′s and 2000′s have not been the most glorious for the team, but changes have been made and the team still fights on to be the best.  During the period after moving to Camden Yards the team has gone through its fair share of ups and down. The loyalists will always be rooting for their team to take home a win, and others may seek the glory days of before. With any athletic team there will be good times and bad, but the fans loyal to the team will always be there to back up their Birds.

The sports Legends Museum

Apart from the numerous Art museums, Baltimore is home to a unique Museum. The Sports Legends Museum is one the few Museums in America that is dedicated for sports stars. Baltimore has given America its finest sports persons and athletes since the past century and more. To commemorate these great athletes and sports persons, the Sports legends Museum was set up sin Baltimore in 2005. Since its inception, it has become the most visited museum of its kind. Posts fans from all over America come to Baltimore specially for this one of a kind museum. This museum is located at the Camden Yards on the first floor and the basement of the Camden Station. Camden Station has a history of its own. Camden Station was opened in 1855 to serve the passengers of Baltimore who come from the Ohio Railroad. The Ohio Road was the first railroad to be commercialized. This structure stood the largest building in Baltimore for a very long time.

The Sports Legends Museum today has more than 22,000 sq feet dedicated to sports persons from all over America. Some of he sports persons that have a permanent place here are. Babe Ruth who was the first sports celebrity of America was the first exhibit here. Then there are sections dedicated for the Baseball industry in Baltimore. It tells the story from 1890′s till today about the growth of the nine innings of the baseball industry. Another section is dedicated to the orioles. The rooms that have these exhibits are roomed in differently designed rooms that suit the theme of the exhibit. Another exhibit it dedicated to the Baltimore Colts. This exhibit tries to show the connection between the citizens and love affair with their baseball team. There are numerous other exhibits that are dedicated to singular sports persons.
