The Port Discovery Children’s Museum is the perfect destination for families with younger children. The museum has several different exhibits and displays that parents and children will enjoy seeing together. In addition to all usual exhibits that are there year round they also do special events throughout the year that allow children to really use their imaginations.

The National Aquarium

The National Aquarium is one of Baltimore’s more popular attractions. They have the usual animals one would normally see at an aquarium but they also feature animals from all over the world. The aquarium has a large variety of birds, invertebrates, sea creatures and amphibians. Not to mention all the exhibits that showcase the animals. The National Aquarium also has a 4D theater that makes visitors experience not only the sights but the sounds and smells as well. Another popular feature at the aquarium is their tours that actually allow aquarium visitors to go underneath the water to see what goes on behind the scenes!

Film in Baltimore

Most everyone loves to go out and catch a film on occasion. Baltimore is not at a loss for providing movies for the entertainment of its citizens. From International Film Festivals to your typical blockbuster multiplex you can find a multitude of film in Baltimore.

Keep an eye on the local universities as they will often have film series and festivals that are too good to miss out on. Just in February alone Towson University brought Baltimore Bridges to the World International Film Festival while Goucher College brought Herskovits at the Heart of Blackness: Film Screening and Panel Discussion. So do not forget about the schools of higher education as they can provide higher entertainment as well.

If you just want to head out and catch the local new release there are several places to visit. But if you want something a little different try a drive-in theater. Drive-in theaters are very hard to find in today’s world buy many cities still have one if you look hard enough. Baltimore is no exception. Baltimore has Bengies Drive In Theater on Eastern Boulevard. Experience the movies as they did years ago. Bengies has triple features on Fridays and Saturday nights to entertain the citizens. Music in the Theater in Baltimore

Baltimore can be a very fun and active city. Even more so when a festival is taking place in the city. There are a variety of resources to find out about what is going on in the city. For the festivals you can check out the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts to find out details about the happening spots in the city. The site not only offers information about festivals but also on art, grants, film, television, video and other relevant information to the arts. This non-profit organization coordinates the city’s major events.

The city’s website is also a great place to find out about the variety of activities and events. For example if one had done their research they would have discovered that on February 18th-20th they could have enjoyed Max’s Annual Belgian Beer Fest at Max’s Taphouse. Theater in Baltimore

The theater is the place where you can go to lose yourself in the live action of the stage. The Baltimore Center Stage has been a part of Baltimore since 1963 and provides professional productions that range from classic theater to contemporary works. The theater also offers educational programs and community programs to help encourage the love of the theater. Another incredible venue for theater is the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center on the west side of Baltimore. This center has a rich history that dates back to 1914 when it was originally known as the Hippodrome and was originally a theater for the showings of movies. Through a variety of changes throughout vaudeville and through the following decades the Hippodrome had a rich history.  Unfortunately that history was cut short in the 1990′s but was revived as the current center. Now the Center encompasses a variety of arts and entertainment for the pleasure of their patrons.

If you want experimental theater try out the Theater Project which combines theater, music and dance for a totally new experience in live entertainment. This group has been around since 1971 and like many theaters has had a several restructuring experiences.  Today’s group maintains excellence and continues to reach out to the community in support of connecting the city of Baltimore to the global artist community. On the opposite side of experimental theater is traditional, such as the Baltimore Opera Theater. The Baltimore Opera Theater is located within the renovated Hippodrome Theater. The opening season just started in 2009 with works such as Il Barbiere Di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville).

Baltimore: A Historical Perspective

The state of Maryland in the eastern part of the United States is one of the most vibrant and prosperous states in the country and that is without any doubt. However, it is important to know that this is also based on the fact that there are strong cities that make up the state. Perhaps, the best known of these cities is the independent city of Baltimore.

Baltimore is a seaport city on the eastern coast of the United States and as a result, it has a considerably huge level of commercial and trading activities. The city is headed by a mayor and has one of the best health and education systems in the United States. However, like every other settlement on the planet, the city of Baltimore started out as a little one before blossoming into the huge bustling city that it is today. Thus, the history of the city is always a delight to those who study the past.

Baltimore was named after one of the aristocrats of Ireland, a man by the name of Cecilius Calvert who was also known as Lord Baltimore. At that time, it was the custom and tradition for American cities to be named after those from the United Kingdom since the country itself was a colony of the powerful British Empire. In no time, Baltimore was able to establish itself as a great agricultural center. There was huge cultivation and production of food and cash crops. The major products then were tobacco, sugarcane and grains. The city has also been able to establish itself as an industrial base.

The city was also quite instrumental to the gaining of independence as it was also one of the cities were the American Revolution was hatched and it also played a pivotal role during the American Civil War. Today, it is a center of trade, agriculture and commerce.
